Cleaning your menstrual cup

Cleaning a menstrual cup with water to maintain hygiene

How to clean your menstrual cup

Hygiene is crucial when handling your menstrual cup. Always wash your hands with soap and water before handling it. Before first use, boil the cup for 5 minutes. Do the same between each menstrual cycle.

Hand hygiene is most important

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling the cup.

Clean the holes in your cup

The small holes at the top create a vacuum that keeps the cup in place. If they get clogged, the cup may leak. Clean them carefully with an interdental brush under running water.

Removing discoloration

Over time, the cup may become discolored. This is harmless, but you can soak it in lemon juice or vinegar for a few hours to remove stains.

How often should you clean it?

Rinse with cold water each time you empty it during your period. Between cycles, boil for 5 minutes. With proper care, your cup can last up to 10 years.
